An article published by Jennifer Smith of The Wall Street Journal describes how highway safety regulators are proposing changes to current regulations that limit a truckers’ daily driving hours.  Current regulations limit most commercial truck drivers to 11 hours of driving time in a 14 hour workday, and are an effort to reduce accidents caused by highway fatigue.  Under the plan released by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, commercial drivers could split their required 10-hour rest period into two separate breaks instead of having to take it all at once (Smith, 2019).
